1. Overview
A teaching and research team with reasonable age structure and professional titles has been established in the specialty of vehicle engineering, including 26 teaching staff, of which senior professional title accounts for 34.78%, deputy senior professional title for 52.17%, and intermediate professional title for 13.05%. Among the teaching staff, 14 have the working experiences in enterprise, accounting for 60.87%, which can meet the demand of engineering education. There are 17 teaching classes (512 students). The existing room area of the laboratory is 2450m2and the office room is 850m2; there are a total of 474 sets of instruments and equipment, with a value of 21.38 million yuan. In the past three years, the professional faculty have presided over 11 projects of National Natural Science Foundation, 6 provincial and ministerial projects, 46university-enterprisecooperation projects and 8 teaching and research projects at all levels. In the past three years, 18 academic backbone teachers have been sent to famous universities at home and abroad for further study, investigation and teaching exchanges, which has broadened the horizons of faculty and deepened their understanding of the connotation of engineering education.
2. Training Objectives

Most of the graduates are employed in well-known automobile enterprises such as Great Wall Motor, Geely, SINOTRUK, Foton, JAC and Dongfeng, and are the senior professionals engaged in product development and design, technology matching, manufacturing, testing, engineering technology management and scientific research in the design and manufacturing of energy-saving and new energy vehicles, intelligent automobile and auto parts.
Cultivation of innovation and engineering ability;
In order to improve the engineering practice ability of students, there are three-level programs in this specialty to apply the theoretical knowledge taught in the course to the three-level programs to solve the practical engineering problems. Based on the third-level programs of the course, the second-level programs in two training directions such as electric intelligent automobile and body design and manufacturing is established. Taking the second-level programs as the main line, the "Super Golden Course" curriculum group is set up to break down the barriers between courses, and form a new pattern in which the third-level programs complementary to each other and progress step by step, and the third-level programs fully support the second-level programs. Based on the training of the third-level programs and the second-level programs of the course group, students are familiar with the research and development process of modern automobile design. The school strives to realize the mode of "integration of theory and practice", expand the depth of courses, and comprehensively improve the basic knowledge, practical ability, teamwork and comprehensive quality training of students. Finally, the students will learn the advanced automobile design and development methods. Second-level program curriculum group integrates curriculum resources, innovates organizational forms and improves project difficulty. From the previous "going through the motions" to "going to the battlefield", the engineering practice ability of students can be practically trained.
In order to ensure the engineering practice ability of students, the training plan stipulates that the engineering practice session shall not be less than 20% of the total credits. The practice bases include the Great Wall, Geely and CITIC Dicastal. Great Wall is the provincial practice base of this specialty, which provides more than 150 students with the practice tasks such as cognitive practice, production practice and post practice every year.
In order to cultivate the innovative ability and engineering practice ability of students, the students of this specialty are organized to participate in the series of competitions for college students of China Society of Automotive Engineers. Formula Student China ("FSC") is an automobile design and manufacturing competition attended by the students from the automobile engineering or related specialties in colleges and universities. The competition was founded in 2010. After years of development, it has developed into a global competition including Formula Student Competition China (FSCC), "Nio Cup" Formula Student Electric China (FSEC) and "ALWAYS Cup” Formula Student Autonomous Competition. Through the competition of static and dynamic events, the competition tests the innovation and engineering practice achievements of the participating teams for one year, and train the professionals in the automobile industry as a carrier. Founded in 2007, Yanxiang Team of YSU is the first Formula Car Team for Chinese college students in Hebei Province and YSU is the founding university of Formula Student China. After years of development, it has become one of the strong teams. The team members include more than 40 regular members and more than 60 interns from the School of Vehicle and Energy, School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Electrical Engineering, School of Information Science and Engineering, School of Humanities and Law, School of Foreign Studies, School of Civil Engineering and Mechanics and Liren College. Yanxiang Team has participated in the 3rd consecutive "Honda" China Energy Saving Competition and the 10th consecutive Formula Student China, and won the first prize for many times, which is an important platform for cultivating innovative ability and engineering practice ability of students.
3. History of development
In September, 1997, relying on the strong discipline of mechanical engineering in YSU, the automobile direction of mechanical design, manufacturing and automation specialty (now vehicle engineering specialty) and automobile department were established. In March 1998, 7 faculty members went to Jilin University of Technology (now Jilin University) for further study. In June of the same year, 30 students were diverted from the Specialty of Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation of Class 1996. In July 2000, the first students of automobile specialty graduated. In October 2002, the Vehicle and Transportation Laboratory was established. In August 2002, the undergraduate specialty and master program of vehicle engineering were successfully declared, and in July 2003, the enrollment of vehicle engineering was started for the first time. In August 2003, the discipline of vehicle engineering was authorized to grant doctoral degrees. In 2007, vehicle engineering became a national key discipline. In 2009, the Vehicle and Transportation Laboratory was selected as the provincial experimental teaching demonstration center in Hebei Province. In 2018, Special Carrier Equipment Research Center in Hebei was successfully applied. In May 2020, Special Carrier Equipment Research Center in Hebei passed the acceptance of Hebei Science and Technology Department and was officially put into operation.
4. Future development

Continuously improve the scientific research ability of scientific research teams, accelerate university-enterprise cooperation, and strengthen the transformation of achievements between scientific research and teaching. 5. Achievements
In the past three years, the laboratory has undertaken 17 national scientific research projects with a funding of 27.6592 million yuan and 17 provincial and ministerial projects with a funding of 5.135 million yuan, including one national key research and development plan, one joint project of National Natural Science Foundation, two national specialty science and technology projects, 7 general projects of National Natural Science Foundation, four youth projects of National Natural Science Foundation, one project of provincial “Giant Program”, two projects of postdoctoral science funds, one provincial key R&D project, four general projects of Provincial Natural Science Foundation and one youth project of Provincial Natural Science Foundation. The laboratory actively organizes and participates in scientific research programs, and promotes the combination of collaborative innovation and the integration of industry, university and research through cooperative research. Within three years, 41 research projects entrusted by enterprises and institutions were completed, with a total contract value of 121,552,700 yuan.
Achievement 1: Intelligent vehicle perception, decision-making and control, human-vehicle-road cooperation and vehicle networking technology, driving behavior analysis and modeling, and vehicle ergonomics. The department has undertaken nearly 30 vertical and more than 20 horizontal projects including 2 projects of National Natural Science Funds, national key R&D plans, national "863” plan, specialty scientific and technological research of Jilin Science and Technology Department and Changchun Bureau of Science and Technology, and international cooperation of Jilin Science and Technology Department.
Achievement 2: Development of vehicle controllerincludingautomobile electronically controlled transfer case controller, hydraulic mechanical stepless transmission controller and unmanned vehicle controller.Mass production has started for the electronically controlled transfer case controller. There are relatively complete development and test conditions for vehicle controller. It can undertake hardware design, software design and production matching of vehicle controller.
Achievement 3: Test system of vehicle transmission.Automobile transmission shift durability test-bed, gearbox shift performance analysis system and gearbox durability test-bed have been successfully developed, popularized and used in gearbox manufacturers.
Achievement 4: Multi-mode coupling drive system of electric vehicle.The integrated design of multi-mode coupling drive system is completed to achieve the dynamic stability control function of distributed drive system. The mechanism of dynamic coupling and energy transfer among motor, engine and AMT in various driving modes is revealed. The principle prototype of multi-mode coupling drive system is developed.
Achievement 5: Expansion forming technology theory of large automobile drive axle housing.The theory and technology for expanding and pressing the axle housing of large automobile drive axle have been formed, and a new technology theory and realization method of pushing-drawing compound diameter reduction have been put forward. Ten patents have been transferred, with a transfer fee of 1.5 million yuan. In Qinhuangdao City, an intelligent production demonstration base for expansion and compression of large-scale automobile axle housing with an annual output of 150,000 pieces was built. Since March 2018, it has supplied more than 3,000 pieces in batches to Dongfeng Dana Axle Co., Ltd.
