School of Vehicle and Energy was established in February 2004, comprising three departments, namely the Department of Vehicle and Traffic Engineering, the Department of Petroleum Engineering, and the Department of Energy and Power Engineering. The school has 103 faculty members, including 9 administrators, 7 counselors, 79 teaching staff and 9 laboratory staff (19 professors, 30 associate professors, 54 lecturers and 10 doctoral supervisors). All teaching staff have doctoral degrees, 2 of them were selected for the Ministry of Education’s New Century Talents Scheme, and 1 was selected for Hebei Province’s “Thirty, Three-hundred and Three-thousand”TalentProject. The school has 1760 students, including 1397 undergraduates, 331 postgraduates and 32 doctoral students.
The school is characterized by vehicle engineering. The specialty of vehicle engineering has passed the national engineering education certification and has been selected as the national first-class undergraduate specialty program. It has an excellent engineer training program of the Ministry of Education. The vehicle engineering laboratory is the vehicle engineering teaching demonstration center and the national engineering practice education center in Hebei Province. Vehicle engineering is a national key discipline, with theSpecial Carrier Equipment Research Centerin Hebei.
The school has two first-level doctoral programs in Vehicle Engineering, two first-level master programs in Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics, andOil-gas Engineering, five second-level master programs in Vehicle Engineering,Thermal Energy Engineering, Power Machinery and Engineering, Oil-gas Field Development Engineering, and Oil-gas Well Engineering; three awarding points for master of engineering: Machinery (vehicle engineering), Resources and Environment (oil and gas), and Energy Power (power engineering). A perfect training system for bachelor, master and doctoral talents has been formed.
In the past ten years, the school has presided over and undertaken 23 projects of National Natural Science Foundation, 36 provincial (ministerial) scientific research projects, 70 departmental (bureau) scientific research projects and 114 university-enterprise cooperation projects; obtained more than 100 patents; won 6 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards, 1 second prize of national teaching achievements, 2 first prizes and 1 second prize of provincial teaching achievements, and 2 second prizes and 1 third prize of Challenge Cup National Science and Technology Competition for College Students.
The School of Vehicle and Energy has continuously invested in education and teaching reform, and is committed to training the students with solid theoretical foundation and broad professional knowledge, strong practical ability and innovative spirit. The trained students have been highly recognized by employers. Racing automobiles independently developed by students majoring in vehicle engineering have participated in previous competitions of Formula Student China for 10 consecutive years, and students majoring in petroleum engineering and energy and power engineering have achieved excellent results in previous competitions of China Petroleum Engineering Design Competition and Energy Saving and Emission Reduction Competition respectively.
