Special Carrier Equipment Research Center in Hebei was built based on the discipline of vehicle engineering of YSU. It was approved by Hebei Science and Technology Department in May 2018 and included in the provincial key laboratory construction plan, and passed the acceptance in May 2020. Focusing on the major strategic demand of national major disaster relief and special materials transportation, the laboratory conducts the in-depth basic theoretical research and key technology exploration in five directions: design theory and key technology of special chassis for high-mobility special vehicles, ship-aircraft interface and dynamic simulation, electromechanical and hydraulic system group cooperative control of large-scale carrier equipment, compound transmission and control of heavy-duty vehicles, and lightweight theory and technology of key parts of vehicles.

The total area of the laboratory is 6,800m2, including 4,850m2forscientific research rooms. There are 534 sets of instruments and equipment, with a total value of more than 33 million yuan. At present, there are 42 fixed personnel in the laboratory, including 1 "Excellent Talent in the New Century" of the Ministry of Education, 19 professors and 14 associate professors, and doctoral degreeholdersaccount for 83%. Professor Zhao Dingxuan is the director of the laboratory. Professor Zhao is currently the president of YSU, a member of the discipline evaluation group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, and the Vice Chairman of China Construction Machinery Society. Now he is the chief scientist in charge of the national key research and development plan, with a total fund of 201.2 million yuan.

In the past three years, the laboratory has undertaken 34 national, provincial and ministerial scientific research projects with scientific research funds of over 32 million yuan, completed 41 research projects entrusted by enterprises and institutions, with a total contract value of 120 million yuan, issued 107 academic papers, including 29 in SCI, 50 in EI, published 5 monographs, and participated in the formulation and revision of 3 national standards, won a total of 5 scientific and technological awards, including 1 provincial first prize for scientific and technological progress, 1 provincial first prize for natural science and 1 first prize for scientific and technological invention of Chinese machinery industry, applied for 45 invention patents and been granted with 53 invention patents.

The laboratoryaimsto serve national defense and military industry, marine ships, special construction machinery and super-large carrier equipment, and strive to become a leading domestic and internationally renowned research center for special carrier equipment in some fields in 5to10 years.
