1997

At the end of the year, the Forging and Pressing Specialty of School of Mechanical Engineering, YSU decided to start the preparation for automobile specialty.

1998

From January 4 to 9, the faculty representatives went to Jilin University of Technology, No.1 Automobile Factory, Changchun Automobile Research Institute, Department of Automotive Engineering of Tsinghua University, School of Mechanical Engineering of Beijing Institute of Technology, Hebei University of Technology in Tianjin, Tianjin Automobile Research Institute and other institutions for investigation. They listened carefully to the suggestions and opinions of peer colleges and organizations on the specialty transformation of YSU.

On February 5, a meeting on the preparation for automobile specialty was held to study and discuss the contents of theFirst Draft of Feasibility Report for Establishing Automobile Specialty, and put forward amendments.

On February 14, the feasibility report of establishing automobile specialty was formally submitted to the university.

On February 16, the forging laboratory of the School of Mechanical Engineering designated an area of 100m²as the automobile disassembly and assembly laboratory and model room.

In June, 30 sophomores were diverted from the specialty of mechanical manufacturing design and automation.

1999

In January, the university contacted Qinhuangdao Transportation Bureau to apply for the establishment of YSU Driving School.

In May, the Department of Plastic Forming of the School of Mechanical Engineering set up a teaching and research office of automobile specialty.

In September, the automobile professional structure disassembly and assembly laboratory was established, covering an area of 100m².

2000

In January, the Department of Vehicle and Traffic Engineering was established, including three specialties: automobile, plastic forming and its automation, and industrial design

In May, the first 30 students graduated.

In September, the transportation specialty was applied for.

At the end of same year, the State Education Commission approved the establishment of transportation specialty.

2001

In March, the Department of Vehicle and Traffic Engineering of the School of Mechanical Engineering and the Automobile Engineering Research Institute were established.

In August, relying on material processing engineering, the discipline of vehicle engineering enrolled 7 first research master students.

In September, first 60 undergraduate course were enrolled in the transportation specialty.

2002

In October, the Vehicle and Transportation Laboratory was established, covering an area of 1080m².

At the end of the same year, the evaluation of the new specialty of transportation in Hebei Province was completed.

2003

In July, the specialty of vehicle engineering began the enrollment.

In August, the master program and undergraduate specialty in vehicle engineering were successfully applied for.

At the end of the same year, the specialty successfully passed the undergraduate evaluation of vehicle engineering and transportation by the Ministry of Education.

2004

In February, the School of Vehicle and Energy was established by the former four specialties of vehicle engineering, transportation, petroleum engineering and energy and power engineering of the School of Mechanical Engineering. Department of Vehicle and Traffic Engineering was established. Automobile research institute was established.

In May, all 7 postgraduate students majoring in vehicle engineering (transferred from material processing engineering) graduated.

2006

In July, the first undergraduates of energy and power engineering graduated.

A class of national defense students were trained by the specialty of petroleum engineering.

2007

Specialty of vehicle engineering became a national key discipline.

Awarded as the innovation highland of undergraduate education of "Petrochemical Industry” in Hebei Province.

In July, the first undergraduates of petroleum engineering graduated.

2009

The provincial experimental teaching demonstration center was established for the specialty of vehicle engineering.

2011

The specialty of vehicle engineering was selected into the "Excellent Engineer" training program;

The specialty of power engineering and engineering thermophysics was approved as the first-class master degree program, and specialty of thermal energy and power engineering began the enrollment.

2012

Department of Thermal Energy and Power Engineering was renamed the Department of Energy and Power Engineering.

2015

In May, the first postgraduates majoring in power engineering and engineering thermophysics graduated.

2016

Specialty of petroleum engineering passed the undergraduate specialty examination and evaluation by the Ministry of Education.

Undergraduate students majoring in petroleum engineering were expanded to three classes with 90 students.

On the basis of the specialty of thermal energy engineering, the specialty of power machinery and engineering was added.

2018

Specialty of petroleum engineering passed the self-assessment of degree program.

2019

Special Carrier Equipment Research Center in Hebei was established

2020

Specialty of vehicle engineering passed the certification of engineering education and entered the "first echelon" of global engineering education.

2021

Specialty of vehicle engineering became a national first-class undergraduate specialty.
